Afternoon Tea served with old world charm in Bangkok

The dapper foodies.
No destination is sacred when it comes to my tea time cravings! In Thailand we checked out the Afternoon Tea sets at the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok and Proud Phuket shortly before we flew back home to Germany.

There are plenty of places in Bangkok to enjoy a fine cup of tea and some beautifully arranged sweets. Our Thai friends, passionate foodies themselves, strongly recommended us to go here.

The 5 star rated hotel Mandarin Oriental is one of Bangkok's most famous spots. We made a reservation prior to going there. Upon arrival the staff asked for our reservation and we were escorted to the Author's Lounge, where tea is served between twelve and six in the afternoon. It's a beautifully softly lit atrium with two staircases joining in the middle. The white ratan furniture and green plants add to the harmony of the room. We were handed the menu which we knew offered an Oriental set and a Traditional set. A vegetarian set is available too. It also covered an amazing choice of Mariage Frères teas which were described with a lot of detail.

To enjoy a bit of both, we ordered a Traditional and an Oriental set.

Yes, we ate all of it! Too delicious to waste!

Beautifully arranged oriental set.

Not only a feast for the eyes.

Fancy sweets as good as they look.

Savory classics well-presented.

During our whole stay we were served with uttermost politeness and thoughtfulness. The food was delicious and the tea was perfectly brewed. Never did I had to pour tea, since staff kept refilling my cup.

I believe we were one of the very few guests who actually ate all of it and when my husband asked for another portion of the Thai marzipan, we received a selection of sweets from the Oriental set for me to try for free. Another pot of milky blue tea was served also free of charge.

This blog entry is based on my personal visit on December 8th 2016.
